In addition to the good advice already given, I decreased UTIs and bladder spasm when I stopped drinking diet coke/pepsi and started drinking more water.
I don't think any one else mentioned it, but it is also important to be sure to take time to go to the toilet during the day. Infections also occur when we wait to long to go to the bathroom.

All the coomments are correct. I have a friend who's suffered from UTI's for 40 years. I got her the AZO cranberry pills, and along with drinking more water that has really helped her.

Other than the classic "go see a doctor" advice, it's important to know that some people (especially females) are simply more prone to bladder infections than others. For us females, our urethra is closer to our bladder, so the bacteria only has a short distance to "creep up" and infect us. Unfortunately, it sounds like you're one of the unlucky ones with the closer urethra. As many have explained mentioned, a helpful remedy includes cranberries, which detoxifies your urinary tract. However, do avoid cranberry juice that contains high fructose corn syrup at all costs because it defeats the whole detoxification process. In addition, make sure you're drinking plenty of water every day and urinating more (it's natural to have to keep going to the bathroom as long as you're peeing a lot every time). Your urine should be clear color, so if it isn't, drink more water.
As for prevention, good hygiene and a healthy diet are essential for every condition. Good hygiene includes "wiping from front to back," as Sneaker55 mentioned, and DON'T sit on public toilets (those things are filthy!). Detoxify your body by drinking green tea and eating asparagus. You'll notice that after eating asparagus, your urine will have really foul oder--it's a good sign because that's all the filthy, disgusting toxins that were in your body. And of course, exercise daily. You should be breaking a sweat every day.
I'm not a doctor, but I do study alternative medicine on my own. Hope this helps!

If it is a repeat infection, chances are you are being treated with too broad of an antibiotic. You should talk to your healthcare provider about doing a specific culture to identify the bacteria causing the infection. Different infections/bacteria respond differently to different antibiotics and if the culprit causing your UTI is not responding to treatment and keeps reoccurring chances are the infection is never being completely resolved. A culture could help this, never hurts to ask for one.

I agree with taking cranberry but in tablet form to reduce sugar and I would get a blood check done to see if by chance you have diabetes2. I had to same problem as you and it was caused by Diabetes2. I don't have them now, am controling my suagar and talking the cranberry pills. You'd be surprised how sugar will damage ones body.

There is a product called AZO that can help with UTI's. One variety has cranberry in it. It does not cure the UTI, just helps with symptoms. I know someone who drinks cranberry juice daily to help prevent UTI's.
If the bacteria gets into the lining of the bladder it takes more extensive treatment. This will happen when the infections are chronic. The bacteria will protect itself by producing a coating that "hides" it from the anti-biotics in the urine that originally took care of the infection. I heard of a product that works on this particular problem but don't remember what it is. I'll have to do some research.

Actually there are a couple of things that could help.. Went through several UTI's back in the 80's and haven't had one since. First - switch to cotton underwear. It is more breathable and will help vent the area. Next, if you are prone to them, either drink some cranberry juice every day or go to the Px and pick up some cranberry tablets or capsules - then make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids - but not liquor or caffeine (both will aggravate the problem). Last but definitely not least, after having "relations", make sure you go to the bathroom and make yourself urinate (if you have to force it, then do so). Hope these suggestions help... good luck!

I was in your boat too...with all the cultures coming back negative. I went to an urologist and have found out I actually have IC. Just something you might want to think about if you continue with this trend... GL

If you're female, always wipe from front to back and not the other way around.
