LNG Export Plant Verges on U.S. Approval Amid Shale Glut

Bloomberg -- Cheniere Energy Inc. (LNG), the natural gas importer that lost $1.2 billion in a decade, is poised to become the sole U.S. exporter of fuel from the shale bonanza that’s turned the nation into the world’s biggest gas producer.

The government may decide as soon as next week on Cheniere’s request to build a $10 billion Louisiana plant that would be the largest in the U.S. to liquefy gas and load it onto ocean-going tankers. Regulators will discuss the project April 19. Cheniere’s shares rose as much as 11 percent in New York.

As usual, we produce something and then promptly export it rather than keep it. What ever happened to buying local or even the same country?

Cheniere’s most-valuable asset may be its Energy Department license to ship domestic gas to nations that aren’t U.S. free-trade partners. The U.S. has free-trade agreements with 18 nations. FERC just needs to insert some wording that says they can do sell overseas as much as they want, as long as it doesn't disrupt supply here and cause major affect to the price of liquefied gas in the U.S.

Yes it might create jobs but it will alow the export of LNG and that allows the industry to control the domestic supply and the domestic price! Same as Big Oil, that now exports record amounts of refined product to maintain high prices in the US!

It will be nice to have some leverage on the Chinese. It will help the trade deficit and give the Chinese a good place to spend all the dollars they get from us.
