define birth--- is it defined as "natural birth" that is really highly variable or maybe a surgical birth. I require a point where we can agree - before this point in time human life is not possible adn does not exist and after this point in time human life does exist adn is possible. To me the only point that meets this criteria (harsh that it may be) is when the two gametes unite. Before that regardless of what anyone does (at present) human life does not exist. However after that point human life is possible and will grow to maturity given luck and suitable help.

Amen on the govt butting out of the decisions people make. But here is a tough one. Can the parents decide to "about" a almost born, a new born, a kid not yet in school etc. Where is the limit and why there? Does society have a right to step in and make some rules - why or why not? What rules - what rationale for them.

Lots of interesting ideas to bat around. human/person - semantics for the most part. There are adults who I probably would classify as not really human and for sure not a person of regard. However based on what I know of biology I can only conclude that a human/person with the unique DNA of an individual comes into existance when teh zygote is formed. Yes I know lots of these die before birth. Lots of humans die of vrious ages all the time. The idea of its not a person because it cant live on its own wont wash either. HOw many folks do you know as adults could live on their own without lots of help? How many newborns can live without substantial assistance. The whole subject is interesting but oh so fraught with emotion and then people toss in religion to complicate it even further.

You said in a topic post - "it's non-viable, with no brain and not even much of a nervous system. It's a potential person, not an actual person." The first (unkind) thought that popped into mind was - hell that describes a lot of voters...... - - - -- I would like to discuss the subject of when is a human a human but I think the rest of the folks would get upset if we continued in that topic.

Yes, I've seen him around. I don't like paying taxes but I only really resent wasteful expenditures. Well, what *I* think are wasteful expenditures. Opinions differ! Have a great day!
