So they have an engine that can get slightly less mileage than the ford escort got 20 years ago? Sure it has more power but it isnt exactly a breakthrough to get 40mpg.

This is really good news especially since my next new vehicle purchase will be a Ford Fiesta Hatch if work ever gets better that is..as it is right now I hope I can pay what bills I have and no that does not include a car loan, still driving my 10 yr. vehicles.

They might have to put a weight restriction on it - I mean a driver weight restriction!
Come on ! WE ALL know it's not for everyone, but IF these got 45mpg plus on the freeway as a second commuter car - yea!

it's been one of the most fuel-efficient cars in Europe for several decades. Nice to see it come to the US ... FINALLY!

If you really want to see good mileage from something that's not a hybrid, then use the diesel engines that they use in Europe. Check out Fiesta's European fuel ratings with the diesel engine. Then you will realize that we are stuck with gasoline engines here because the oil companies are colluding with major auto manufacturers here NOT to make vehicles with diesel, thus keeping our insatiable appetite alive for gasoline (and its prohibitive costs per mile/km). That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it.

Chevy Cruze eco gets 42 MPG or better and is not a hybrid. Volkswagen TDI Jetta/Passat get 42/43 MPG or better and are not hybrid. Ford is a day late and a dollar short yet again...

Ford has had their head stuck in the ground for at least 13 years, that is ever since Toyota came out with the Prius. It is not news that Ford still cannot or will not come up with anything to beat Toyota's 13 year old Prius design.

What / All this engineering by a company that didn't take billions of dollars from the taxpayer and give it to a union. How could that happen? That is why the last car I bought and the next one - Fords.

Fiesta will be most fuel-efficient non-hybrid on the road, for a 2014 vehicle, a 123 HP engine, 1-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, to get more than 40 m.p.g. in Europe. Good for Ford but my current vehicle was paid off many years ago and I don't need any car payments now! I will drive my current vehicle into the ground before buying anything new, used, EV, Inbred, diesel, hydrogen, alternative fuel, CNG, concept and certainly NOT a Prius, Tesla, Leaf, Volt or an NYC/Sandy Special 'exploding submarine' Fiskar Karma Inbred! And, who can buy a vehicle in today's economy? 'Coming out of the closet' Sneeky's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the jobs are Not here. Sneeky's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, the vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! XII/XXII/MMXII!
