Hawaii officials recommend web-based insurance verification

GasBuddy Blog -- Even with a percentage of uninsured motorists that's below the national average, Hawaii is taking significant steps to reduce the cost that the uninsured impose on law-abiding motorists.

A group of transportation officials is recommending that the state establish a web-based verification system within two years that allows authorities to instantly confirm that a driver has a valid policy.

The recommendations, published by the state’s regulatory department late last week, establish the framework of an insurance verification program, including issuing notifications that target uninsured motorists who repeatedly break the law and suspension of their vehicle registrations if they fail to reply.

Why is forcing health insurance on everyone bad? The same reasons (and more) apply: the uninsured end up costing the responsible people (and society) through the teeth.

There are more drivers on the road than one might think, driving around recklessly with no insurance whatsoever. I would not blame it all on the undocumented people in this country either.

Both were uninsured, and were also illegal aliens, who also had warrants for other crimes. My uninsured motorist insurance covered the repairs, but I learned to carry more insurance as a result. Just a personal experience, but then I suppose Hawaii has fewer problems with out-of-state drivers going from one state to another.

When taking the school class, I was told that if someone is allowed to drive uninsured, you can sue the state, for allowing them to drive without insurance.
