I purchased a CX-5 in October after driving full-size pick-ups for the past 20 years. The switch was difficult at first considering the difference in sizes. But man-o-man, the fuel savings is mind boggling. With a 40/60 mix of highway/city driving I'm averaging 32 mpg.

Green cars are great if you can afford one. Payback in savings of fuel costs goes straight into replacing expensive battery packs.

That's great for Mazda.
But the article leaves doubt about Mazda being the only one awarded.

Let's hope it doesn't go the way of the Mazda Wankel engine from the late '70s.

mfgrendon:
"I wouldn't touch a Ford if you paid me."

Skyactiv cars are not Fords. Ford sold their 20% stake at the pit of the Great Recession and retain less than 5% I believe, which is not enough to have any influence over the way the company does business.
