Motorists pay for refinery, pipeline problems

GasBuddy Blog -- The day when motorists see such rapid increases in gasoline prices is the day when it should be asked by lawmakers if there is enough spare refining capacity. That day should have been long ago.

The number of refineries have dwindled. Unstable margins have added into the risky future of expanding a refinery. The U.S. can require a certain amount of ethanol to be consumed and produced yearly, prompting hundreds of new ethanol refineries. But oil refineries? Nothing new in decades. Why hasn't the U.S. looked at oil refineries and the lack thereof in the volatile prices? It doesn't matter how much oil prices are or how much ethanol we produce- if we're still subject as a country to sticker shock like we're seeing- what's the point?

Congress should also put strict penalties on the oil companies and not the consumers. The oil companies are getting away with serious price gouging and we the consumers are getting screwed more and more. We need a fair market rate for gas period. When oil prices per barrel go up the gas you buy that day was not at the new price it takes almost 30 days for oil purchased today to go through the refinery and then make it to us at the pump

Consumers pay for everything... taxes, regulations, and profit. But then without a profit there is no product. Make a choice, let the "greedy" corps make a profit and enjoy their product. Or no Ipads, no gas, , no food, no houses, no a/c, no games, no movies, etc. That's how and what a free market does.

The consumer ALWAYS pays, that's why I don't understand people that want to slap corporations on the wrist, it just means their product is going to be more expensive

Start fixing/replacing the old refineries.
Modern updated ones should save the price of gas.

Motorists can only pay for the greed of the oil industry if they buy products produced by that industry. CONSERVE till it hurts, use any alternative available!
