Toronto mayor admits he reads while driving

GasBuddy Blog -- Sadly, this is no joke. We're not kidding. The Toronto Sun reports that Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto, has no qualms admitting that he reads while driving his Cadillac Escalade at up to 70 mph on his way to and from work.

Is it arrogance? Indifference? Whatever it is, he's a menace to public safety, and ironically, the newspaper reports that there's nothing illegal about the peculiar example Ford chooses to set while driving to represent the people of Toronto. Why is reading while driving legal?

Although it defies common sense and any regard for motorists and vehicle safety, The Sun noted that Ontario's 'distracted driving' ordinance applies only to electronics, making it legal to eat, drink and yes, read behind the...

Every U.S. driver learns how to read while driving. We call them "billboards." Maybe Toronto mayor is just compensating for their lack of roadside "banner ads". Thus ends my sarcasm against outdoor advertising.

This is getting way out of hand...bottom line is we have a stupid mayor, who still feels saving money on expenses (got him elected though) trumps saving some lives of his constituents.
...and Alberta...we have a distracted driving law its just a) the police is not the one taking the picture & b) it is the mayor. Let's see how quick your police would charge Harper should he be caught phoning & texting...of course he wouldn't be because he doesn't drive himself but you get the point.
Very few will vote Ford again unless he really turns things around.

I'm increasingly careful about where I put my cell phone when I'm driving. And the bluetooth headset. Next car must have bluetooth built in.

Representatives should be setting a better example, and laws should be changed. Not only for reading, but putting on make up too - anything that distracts a driver.

It also has no bearing on gas prices. Please stop posting such pointless "news."

Seems like this mayor is about two inches away from a law suit. He already had admitted his guilt and he is not even in court, yet. What a dummy.

I don't have issues with drinking or eating while driving as long as the driver doesn't have to look away from the road, and as long as the food or drink is not messy or hot enough to create a problem if it is dropped. Water in a cup with a cap and a straw is a good example.

However, you cannot read and not have your eyes diverted away from where you are going.
