I really can't think of how myself and many of my friends made it through all these years in life without the Child restraint seats. We rode in the back of pickup trucks, sat down when we were told used common sense and most of us are in our late 60s.

If we got the agressive drivers off the roads, the drunks, and so on the roads would be a safer place to drive. I have an old truck 1946 that I want to share with my grandson and cannot because it doesen't have seat belts in it.

I use this truck maybe 4 times during the summer months, and drive on rural roads at around the 15-20 mph enjoying the peace and quiet that we once had.

So in conclusion I am in total agreement with Rumbleseat, on the child restraint seats.

"No, child safety is a parental responsibility"

One could use the same argument for a parent deciding whether a child can ride with a drunk, use a power mower without wearing shoes, play football in the streets, or other dangerous activities. When your child is on the road in a car, and I am driving that same road, that child's safety becomes a shared concern.
Too many parents are morons. A responsible society tries to protect the defenceless children against the actions of morons.
There is an old African proverb that is applicable: "it takes a village to raise a child".

Ha, "parental responsibility" is a joke. Too many of today's parents do not take any responsibility in rearing their children. Yes, just as we have laws that children must be schooled (note that does not mean they actually have to be educated, just schooled) we should have laws that require children are safely secured in automobiles. Children do not have the knowledge to make that decision, but would have to live (or not live, as the case may be) with the tragic results of their parents' lack of care for their entire lives.

Interesting how good ideas become law when we don't have enough common sense to do for ourselves. Good points tho will government pass laws to require us to wear helmets in cars, it should save lives but at what expense?

yES i BELIVE KIDS UNDER THE AGE OF 12 SHOULD BE IN A CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT OF SOMESORT, SO MANY PEOPLE CHOOSE TO KEEP THIER KIDS OUT OF ONE IN WHICH IS UNSAFE AND COULD RISK THE LIVES OF THIER CHILDREN AS WELL

I think anyone who says "yes, for the kids sake" should also explain at what point government should stop intruding into our lives with more nanny laws.

leveit2clever: by your logic, should we also mandate helmets for all passengers (including kids)? Just the other day I saw yet another head bleed in the ER from a motor vehicle accident (the other car driver didn't make it). Should we also mandate helmets 'for the kids sake'?

I absoultely use them but I do not think it should be a law, if people are stupid enough not to use them, even for children, it is their right and their consequences no matter how sad it can be.
