No - I do not believe the oil companies get together to plan future gasoline prices. I do believe they watch what eachother are doing so they can figure out how much they can charge without losing too much business to their competitors.

Yes, but oil speculators are more to blame than the gasoline companies for the high gas prices.

No they are set on the markets and respond to news stories related to them. A more likely culprit in high prices is insufficient refining capacity.

OPEC fixes a rate, then it's refined and then sent to the stations;
each has their own extra "interest" in the process and taxes added in.

Just looking at the prices around me, one can tell that they're fixed within 10 cents of each other.

I find that the prices follow the NASDAQ - when it closes on the up side,
gas prices fall within 2 days/ when it closes on the down side, gas prices rise within 1-2 days.
