I make a note of the prices everywhere I go, and for the most part, post all the prices I've seen. I live in an area where they are almost always high, and I count on others to show me where to go, while I'm probably telling them where to avoid.

I attempt to note every station that I see during my commute to and from work. If I stop for gas off the beaten path, I make a note of that too.

I like to post low prices but higher prices will keep people more informed about the injustices of oil companies who rob us of hard earned money.

I post for stations with the lowest prices because that's what I'm interested in finding and I assume that others will also want to know that information too. That's why I'm checking for them on this list!!

I don't have a bias... I just post what I see at the gas stations I pass everyday. Now I might be a little happoer if I find a lower price, but that's it!

I don't have a bias in terms of posting the prices (just a certain local gas station attempt at a monopoly). I like to make sure I post all the prices I see on my route to work and others that I may recall on a detour from my usual route. That way, people can see what the prices are and make a hopefully intelligent decision to avoid the higher priced stations.

I don't see any point in posting high prices - the reason I come to the site is to find the lowest ones so don't bother keeping track of anything else.

I post all prices that are on my route to work to let people know where to go for the lowest prices along that same route.

I would say I tend to report the extremes, either the highest or the lowest. The lowest so people know where to go and the highest to call out those station owners and so other know to avoid them.
I try to report all those that I pass regularly, but unless I have note paper I ain't gonna remember them all, so just the outliers get recalled later.
I'm also less likely to post when prices are stable.

Looks like I completely misunderstood the poll's question. But if we post prices honestly then the question itself doesn't seem to be complete. What should be my bias if I post the price exactly as I see it? Or should I always post _all_ prices even if they don't publish it on the board (as in the US)?
I thought I should just post what I see and wish to inform people about...

Actually, I wish I could report the lowest prices. That benefit more people. However, I report the prices of the stations that I drive by every day. Those seem to always be on the high side.

That is like asking, do I like money? Of course, I love low prices and I save a couple hundred dollars a year by being smart about buying gas.

I find that I notice lower prices and tend to post them and only avoid high price stations.
To avoid this bias, I have two routes home after work and I try to post the same gas stations on those routes no matter the price.

MTPokts,
Good example.
I've seen examples of "spikes" were there is a large price increase and the next day the stations that went "HIGH" are almost forced to lower prices because other stations (in my areas prices tend to be "flat") go with a lower price... In some respect it may have to do with customers avoiding those stations. Gasbuddy might play some role...

Never really thought of it - maybe not a bias. But it is important for the community to consistently post the lowest prices so everyone else can know whether they should pull into a particular station or keep driving. If the lowest prices are posted then we don't have a good view of whether a particular station is high or not.

Hopefully, station owners/managers use this web site to check out rates in the area. That is when they're going DOWN. Or at least shame them if they raise their prices and they can see if other stations aren't following.

I believe by posting fuel rates online, it gives consumers the ability to purchase the lowest rates available in their areas.
Gas station owners can use it to determine their rates compared to competitors it their areas and use it to determine their daily prices.
Its a win win for all involved.

I post all that I see on my way around town, or on trips to other towns. I have a cassette recorder that I use to record prices and times. When I get home I play the tape and input the prices.

There are no bonus points for posting lower prices, so there is no benefit to only posting the lowest prices. I pass 5 gas stations on my route to work. Particularly, when I need to purchase gas, I make a mental note what they are all charging, and then report them all on the site.

Why on earth would there be a bias? The whole point is to have available the prices people see. If someone is biased, they shouldn't even be here.

Not at all, because I believe it is just as important for people know which stations to avoid because of high prices, as it is important for people to know where to go for the low prices.
Thank you, John.
