Auto sales rise as higher gas prices, aging vehicles spur demand

NBC News -- Americans may be worried that the economy isn't picking up enough momentum, but they aren't concerned enough to stop buying fuel-efficient new cars and trucks to replace aging vehicles.

Chrysler said Tuesday that sales rose 14 percent in August amid strong demand for its Ram pickup truck. It was Chrysler's 29th consecutive month of year-on-year sales. Ford's U.S. August sales rose 13 percent, to 197,249 vehicles.

And General Motors Co posted a 10 percent jump, as higher gasoline prices spurred sales of GM's Cruze and other compact cars. Average U.S. gasoline prices have risen about 21 cents a gallon in the past month.

The money saved on gas won't offset the cost of the vehicle.

Some people don't mind going into significant debt to drive a new car....
Regarless of higher fuel efficiency! Sooner or later the debt catches up to them and they expect Uncle Sam to bail them out .... not a good move!!!

Some people who are yelling about gas prices and saying they are broke are just trying to keep it in the news because they are part of the ones profiting from our misfortune.

The economy has been so bad, that people have run their vehicles into the ground and need new wheels.

I will not believe any survey when it comes to gas and cars. The government will mislead you to their thinking every time.

For some people it makes sense to buy a new higher nog vehicle, for others not so much. The good thing is that there are individuals out there who have that option right now- it helps the auto workers stay employed... that is good news!

Truck sales is whats driving the market not cars. People want to be safe more than they worry about mileage. Evidentally those that are buying the cruze havent heard about the 400,000 vehicle recall they issued.

It's LIBERALS who want higher gas prices. Obama's lap dog advisor Chung wants to see $5.00 gasoline before the end of his term. They feel that will spur conversion to alternative fuels.

Install a new Congress with conservatives at the helm and we will see lower gas prices. Until Obama is out, and the congress is totally Republican, we will have more prices skyrocketing.

It won't matter who is president as long as the people with the power are Conservatives instead of Leftists.
