Boeing 787 Batteries Same As Those In Electric Cars? Umm, NO

Greencarreports -- Gird yourself: It's possible we're about to see a new wave of attacks on electric cars that ignore battery science.

This time the culprit is the troubled Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The FAA has grounded all 787s after a string of fires in their lithium-ion battery packs; other countries have done the same.

Which has led at least one supposedly authoritative commentator to say that Boeing is having the same battery problems as those "that have shown up in electric cars."

The problem is that the two types of batteries are, in fact, quite different.

YOU ALL ARE MISINFORMED AGAIN... BOEING'S LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES ALONE ARE NOT THE PROBLEM... THE CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT... HEATING/COOLING SYSTEMS... THE INITIALIZATION TRANSFERS & BYPASSES... SIZE/STORAGE/WIRING HARNESSES... SWITCHING FIRE DAMPERS... I COULD LIST THESE ALL NIGHT... AND THEY ARE 10 TIMES SMARTER THAN I AM... EACH & EVERY SYSTEM THE 787 HAS, IS A PROVEN PRODUCT... IN THEORY ALONE, THINGS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT... BUT, THE LAWS OF AERO-SPACE ENGINEERING DON'T ALLOW FOR THE UNEXPLAINED... BOEING IS THE BEST PASSENGER AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURING COMPANY IN THE WORLD... TOP TOO BOTTOM...

I disagree.

I think they are actually quite similar--neither one seems to work as it is supposed to work.

ANY stored energy is potential danger. We just need to learn how to handle it, and unfortunately, some of the trials do not turn out well.

Well I guess you'll just feel like the fracking people did after that UAE sponsored film did after their industry was smeared, eh!! I guess Greencarreports is only interested in factual reporting when it benefits them.
