since I'm not in the market for a new car, this doesn't mean much. And GM's diesel trucks are way overpriced. Well, so is everyone else's diesel truck I s'pose.

mpg: you get more mileage out of diesel, and b/c of efficiency, it pollutes less (with the new engines that is). In the end, all things equal, the higher diesel price still gets you to come out ahead.

It is hard for me to forget that first GM diesel lemon. You can paint a lemon blue thereby make it green but it is still a lemon, and a guvamint motors lemon at that. Diesel stinks.

What is the deal with diesel? It smells, gets poor mileage and costs more than regular. I also seem to remember a report that diesel is just as bad forthe air as gasoline. I guess if a supposed expert says it then poop will become poop de jeur and everyone will stand in line to get it, and at premium prices as will.

The last GM diesel might have been a "dog" but this is a whole new generation diesel. I will consider buying one once I stop being homeless.

Well said clermont40miles. The last GM diesel we owned was a "dog". I'll wait until GM has been successfully producing these cars before seriously considering buying.

We have a Dodge Ram 2500 diesel 4x4. Can't wait to see what the Cruze will do. The price is very competitive.

Diesel is the way to go, remember the 1983 full size chevy pickup with the diesel v8 that got 30mpg? They did not sell that one for very long.

Lets hope the reliability of the Cruze diesel is good. A lot of manufacturers have tried small diesel autos and failed. VW dominates the market.

We all know what soured Americans (for the most part against diesels) so I sure hope that GM learned its lesson of almost 30 years ago and will be marketing a true diesel. In Europe... they are almost the norm... their peppy and with their fuel prices... they make motoring a bearable experience. I just wish we had the diesel options they have NOW.

yes diesel is much higher priced due to taxes. But the econ level is about 30% higher, so it makes up for the cost. And over the past six months diesel has stayed steady about $3.90. Gas has shifted over over 50 cents a gallon! Today's price difference is about 25 cents. Hum, E85 with lower MPG or 25 cents higher for 30% better MPG?
