Cary man with 128-mile commute hopes for home sale! You have to do what you have to do, a means of support is very important especially when being unemployed for three years. Moving closer to you job to minimize costs are important too! Until the house is sold and you are out from under its cost, then things will improve. But driving a Ford F-150 for a 128 mile commute is a very bad choice. A F-150 is for hauling large or heavy items or pulling various size trailers, NOT as a daily driver with only the driver at the wheel. Gas prices are too high to make any long distance commute possible or reasonable. 'Coming out of the closet' Sneeky's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the jobs are Not here. Sneeky's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down and NOT improving! And, Sneeky's spending has gone out of control and gone wild! Drives vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Better if he got a used gas-efficient car like a metro for the commute

Back in the golden days I'd have said, "Quit your whining, buy a smaller car and move closer to work!" But these days, that isn't always possible or practical. I feel for the guy; when I lived in Bumscratch, Mississippi I knew of several people who were working minimum wage or slightly better jobs and commuting hundreds of miles in old jalopies because there is no public transportation out in the country. Back when gas was $4/gallon they were spending more on gas than on food and bills!
Makes me really glad I bought into fuel efficient and fun TDI diesels back in 2000. If I had "Cary man"'s commute, 600 a week would be less than one tank for me, and it would cost only $49 to do that each week. That's $196 a month versus his gas guzzling truck's $500 a month.
Unless he needs the truck for his job, he'd be wise to sell it (even at a small loss) and buy something fuel efficient and used.

sometimes, you just gotta do what you gotta do.. but with the cost of gas, I would have looked a lot closer to home for a job and maybe taken something that did not pay as well, but the gas saving would have helped make it up.. but then a lot of people live way beyond their means, and when that job they had goes away, and you got to look for something else to keep what you have.. that can be very difficult.. better to not live on all the overtime etc.. so when you get cut to 40 hours or less, you can make it..

Who in the right mind will accept job that far unless you take into consideration commuting time, road hazard, truck depreciation and gas factored in. It must be good paying job after all.

after the company my niece's husband worked for went out of business, the closest thing he could find in his field was 85 miles one way-170 miles daily, 850 miles weekly..fortunately, he has since found a job only 40 miles away, 80 miles daily..
