Greenpeace finds deep-sea corals on Shell’s Arctic drill site

WashingtonPost.com -- Greenpeace scientists have identified a dense patch of deep-sea corals in a lease area of the Arctic’s Chukchi Sea off Alaska’s northwest coast, where Royal Dutch Shell is slated to start drilling.

Researchers for the advocacy group, which have been lobbying to block drilling in the Arctic this summer, went down about 150 feet in a submarine this week to take samples. During the dives, they found significant concentrations of the soft coral Gersemia rubiformis , which is commonly known as sea raspberry.

sadly, Greenpeace is not the best source. It could have been a good organization (and they have done some good early one), but over time, they have lost a lot of their credibility due to flat out lies, half-truths and distortion of facts.

What!?

Royal Dutch Shell's Envionmental Impact Statement has bogus/incomplete data in it?

I mean, its not like they listed seals, Sea Otters, Sea Lions, and walruses in their Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Disaster Response Plan...

... oops!

Greenpeace really doesn't deserve this much attention. Just let Shell begin their drilling and hold them accountable for any spills caused by such.

The WashPo could have done a search and found that sea raspberry is very common there, about as common as salt water. Another search would have shown that deep-water is considered more in thee range of 1000 feet and not 150 feet.

Consider the source of this "news" which is a very left leaning newspaper and the entity conducting the survey of the Artic Chukchi Seas floor which is Greenpeace. Greenpeace has almost no credibility due to its habit of telling half truths, fudging facts and distorting any findings of any organization that is opposed to it's agenda.

Notice how you can always tell how the writer feels about a group? If the writer likes a group, they are "advocates." If the writer dislikes the group, they are called "special interests."

Coral is an important organism in the ocean's ecology. I am not familiar with the issue beyond this but I'm sure Greenpeace will let us know.

I am so sick of Greenpeace and other Nazi like Fanatical groups like the Serra club who just want to totally disrupt progress and Advancement of Human Life on this Planet for their Wrapped and squishy feel good sissy motives. Time the rest of the Humian Race stands up to them and puts them down for a change.

I agree with Zeke33. Everyone seems to have an agenda. Most will do ANYTHING to push their agenda even print and speak lies. Advocacy groups have a place in our world but they need to be truthful, ethical, and moral.

Greenpeace has lost all credibility with me because I know they are supported heavily by billionaire traders that thrive off the chaos they cause. The "environmental rulings" they receive allow them to trade stocks or commodities "short" or other companies that benefit from the rulings to "buy" or "go long" on. Another form of insider trading the govt. hasn't even thought about yet. They're still trying to sift through the banking mess.
