How Much Will the Chevron Refinery Fire Affect Gasoline Prices?

The fire at Chevron’s refinery in Richmond, California is expected to cause gasoline prices to rise, although analysts do not yet know by how much. They are waiting until Chevron releases a full report on the damage done to the plant.

Due to initial fears of a severe loss of supply from the plant the cost of gasoline rose 30 cents a gallon the day after the fire, but has since started to fall again as Chevron manage to reopen a part of the refinery in order to continue producing small amounts of hydrocarbon fuels.

Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for the Oil Price Information Service, said that by Monday “you should see California gasoline prices at or near $4 a gallon again.”

The price jump is just a bunch of speculative manipulation.
Gasoline inventory for the west coast was up slightly this week and had only dropped slightly last week so apparently this refinery is NOT a crucial supplier.

I really wish the Government had it's own refinery sitting right next to each strategic oil supply field... that way if a refinery goes down, another could be brought on line, albeit temporarily, to stabalize the marketplace.
...but that would be asking a bit much... huh?

Who do they think they're kidding? We know that a fire in a (wastebasket in a restroom at a) refinery in California means that the pump price on the east coast will increase by at least 35-40 cents/gallon within a couple of weeks.

Should not raise prices at all and seldom did in the "Old Days" BUT we are in differents times so they will raise prices as much as they think the public can stand - not afford - but STAND!
