It's time to develop our Arctic resources

CNN -- (CNN) -- The United States is on the verge of an energy renaissance. We need to recognize and seize the opportunity.

This renaissance involves domestic production of natural resources ranging from clean renewables to hydrocarbons.

In particular, domestic hydrocarbon production -- both oil and gas -- is increasing dramatically, with some experts predicting that the United States could become the largest hydrocarbon producer in the word -- outstripping Saudi Arabia and Russia -- by 2020.

Increased domestic production of hydrocarbons is driven by two trends. First, new technology is unlocking unconventional resources such as shale-derived oil and gas. And second, investors and policy makers are recognizing that the U.S. still has an enormous resource base of conventional oil and gas,

I would prefer to see US on the cutting edge of clean technology with an eye to the future.

BIG OIL & GAS & COAL hope to keep US addicted to their dirty fossil fuels in clouds of smog so thick we can not see any alternative solutions. We need to break free from the BIG GREED addiction and their bullying tactics with thoughts of a cleaner, healthier planet for future generations.

A continuation of the scorched earth policy . . . the author, Dan Sullivan is a lawyer and a Republican hack that, it appears, cares little about the environment and more about raping the Alaska wilderness for the benefit of large oil corporations at the expense of leaving it unspoiled for future generations.

Hopefully this enormous resource base of conventional oil and gas that the U.S. still has can be used to ween us off our current foreign crude oil addiction.

Its time the U.S. took the lead in oil and gas production in the Arctic region, before Russia drains the region.

Development of Arctic resources is inevitable. Just when, who knows for sure? My only hope is that we can put the brakes on fracking, especially in built up areas of the country. The amount of water required is causing nearby farm land to become arid for lack of sufficient water.
