Majority of Californians say they know nothing about emissions cap-and-trade program

San Jose Mercury News -- California's landmark global-warming bill was a white-hot topic in the 2010 governor's race and remains former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's signature environmental achievement.

But as the state prepares to unroll the law's cap-and-trade program in November with the first state auctions of emissions permits, a new poll finds that 57 percent of Californians say they have never heard anything about the program.

The statewide poll by the Public Policy Institute of California further found that 30 percent of respondents said they had heard "a little," while just 12 percent said they had heard "a lot."

"Cap-and-trade is a very complicated issue to the average Californian," said Mark Baldassare, president and
CEO of the PPIC.

drpepperTX suggests:

"Sadly the majority of Californians are oblivious to anything remotely fiscally sound."

Actually, its not the majority of Californians, its the tone-deaf state government.

Sadly the majority of Californians are oblivious to anything remotely fiscally sound. For example, recently a San Diego school District made a move being called a loan not even a subprime lender would make.

Poway Unified, borrowed $105 million over 40 years by selling a bond so unusual that the State of Michigan outlawed it years ago. Taxpayers in the area will end up with a nearly $1 billion bill, on the backs of future children.

gnusman53, our biggest HOPIUM addict, is from there and likely agrees with this right?

By the way, if a person is on the "dole", welfare, SSI or drawing ANY subsistence from the State or Federal Government (make that TAXPAYER funded), should you be allowed to vote???? Would that be a "conflict of interest"?

So! Those Liberal SOBs have created "cloud money" (Cap & Trade Points), which is going to bite ALL Californians in the but! I guess that is one way to "print" your own money like Bernake does! I sure hope all these environuts STAY in California, and don't infest the rest of the USA! But, as Sergeant Schultz would say for uninformed Californians who keep electing the same old liberal politicians, "I know nothing, Herr Commandant"!

Most people don't understand cap and trade and I don't either. Pass the law before anyone knows what it is or what it does and it may make money for the state. Just don't let other states get wind of this or they may do it too.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost.

I think if you live in California you better be brushing up on what is going on it your state. It might be wise to learn more about the cap and trade program.

The average Californian is obviously clueless, apparently that is why they keep voting for the same politicians that have put them in debt. I don't care as long as the rest of us don't have to bail them out.

Enjoy the new and improved prices California.

We have some tree huggers in B.C. in Canada as well. They are quite upset about gas prices with the green tax put on as well for them. Yet they insisted on it not too long ago.

Oh well.

I can just hear the taxpayers, entrepreneurs, and small business' leaving the state of California for greener pastures. The average Californian is clueless! Just look at the politicians they elect in that one party state.
