Most Americans Support Govt backing of renewable energy

Reuters -- Almost 80% of respondents in a Yale-George Mason University poll said they support federal funding for renewable-energy research. However, the number of those who said they "strongly" supported federal assistance to renewables has declined from 53% in 2008 to 36%, the poll showed. About three in four respondents agreed that the U.S. should regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant and implement policies to curb its emission, the survey found. Reuters (4/26),

The Civil Society Institute (CSI) The CSI Media Release about the study mentions as a key finding of the study: "More than three out of four Americans (76 percent) - including 58 percent of Republicans, 83 percent of Independents, and 88 percent of Democrats -- think that the United States should move to a sustainable energy future through 'a reduction in our reliance on nuclear power, natural gas and coal, and instead, launch a national initiative to boost renewable energy and energy efficiency.'" Awesome! So, if the CSI survey results are accurate, Americans are a lot more united than the media would have us believe! It does appear the survey results would have been less promising, if it were taken among gasbudy posters on this topic. :/ But I still hope we can find a way to turn this united public opinion into decisive action before its to late. The reason that we are in such dire straits is that we have abandoned "federalism"; allowing our central government to acquire too much power in areas where they don't belong. We will continue this downward spiral economically and have countless "Solandras" until we understand this and make the necessary changes. An application of the 10th Amendment to all federal legislation is in order.

People in the US want the cheaper fuel to run their vehicles and run the factories, but are reluctant to spend the money now for the research and development of these renewable energy sources. You just can't have it both ways and unfortuantely congress is not helping with all this politicing.
