No food, radio or gazing under BG distracted driving law?

Bowling Green News -- Banning texting while driving is one issue, but what about outlawing "distracted driving" as a whole? That's the burning question the Bowling Green City Council faces as they introduced new distracted driving legislation to the community on Tuesday night.

According to The BG News, the ordinance would ban any type of distraction that takes the driver's attention away from the road. While some residents expressed concern that this vague definition would violate their rights, personal injury attorney Mike D. Bell says the heart of the ordinance is in everyone's best interest.

"I understand the intent behind the law and it's great that the legislature is taking advantage of this opportunity to come out to stop distracted driving," Bell said.

all people do is hold their phones on their laps taking even more attention off the road.

many talk of over reaching regulations, but if people were already paying attention, something like this wouldn't be in the works.

So instead of Speed Traps the cops will have a Sexy Woman with a short skirt and/or a low cut top walking the sidewalks and give tickets out all day to men (and some women) "Gazing" out their side windows. Keep voting for Liberals and they'll keep cramming more stupid laws down your throat.

So children, billboards, radio, pedestrians are all banned? I've seen people collide with the vehicle in front while watching road construction. As previous post indicated, let people drive who can. Stop the ones who can't.

If you can't drive effectively while eating a sandwich, they should take your liscense away. Otherwise, let the rest of us be. Some of us work on the road for a living and its the only chance you get to eat.

More so called public servants that think they know better then us. What a bunch of idiots! The issue is not properly teaching children responsibility. The driving age needs to be raised to 21 or 18 if they graduated from High School.

I've heard it's illegal to eat and drink in your vehicle in Germany. I don't know this for a fact.

I'm sick and tired hearing about people's rights. Driving is a privilege! Safety first.

Enforce the laws on the books now......

1) Failure to devote your full time attention while driving.
2) Reckless driving.
3) Driving while impaired.

You think another law is going to prevent drivers from doing things that are distracting? Did a law prevent that guy from shooting people in a movie theater in Colorado? NO.

Americans need to learn common sense, know whats right and wrong, know their limits and have the right to defend themselves when it comes to ANY situation. Enough of the self righteousness, the political correctness, the finger pointing and the too lazy to do anything mentality.

And for those saying robot cars are the future- just watch, we'll be dumb enough to make laws about those, too!!!

Distracted driving is a problem... but passing a law to end distracted driving is like passing a law to change everyone's mind. Distractions happen every second. It's how each personality handles them that can, or not, lead to problems.

"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." - Floyd Ferris in Atlas Shrugged
