Oil price hovers around $97 ahead of US data

Associated Press -- The price of oil hovered around $97 a barrel on Wednesday ahead of the release of U.S. housing starts for January.

By early afternoon in Europe, benchmark crude for April delivery was down 19 cents to $96.91 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The March contract, which expires Wednesday, rose 80 cents to finish at $96.66 per barrel on the Nymex on Tuesday.

Later in the day, the U.S. Commerce Department will release housing starts for the month of January, a key gauge of the real estate industry and economy. I wouldn't care what price crude oil is just as long as the price of gasoline hovers around $2.50 a gallon.

WRONG !! Oil plummeted today all the way down to $95 per barrel. But gas still went up 10-15 cent a gallon here today, thanks to CHU & O'Lenin II.

Oil and gas are overpriced period! Speculators see the economy recovering and they are putting bundles of cash into oil "to make money". This is killing the working man/woman and the goverment should do something about it. The truth about gas is that the crazy high prices are making demand go down each and every year but yet the price rises. Just doesn't add up anymore as supply and demand are dead. We use less gas but the price continues to rise. Nothing but GREED in the world today!!

Dropped to $94.44.

Still twice what it ought to be. Speculators keep it hiked up.
