Pain at the pump: GasBuddy analyst expects West Michigan fuel prices to crest above $3.70

Mlive -- West Michigan motorists could be paying as much as $3.79 for a gallon of regular, unleaded fuel as early as this week, a GasBuddy.com analyst said.

Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for the crowd-sourced fuel price index, said a host of issues like spiking wholesale gas prices and expected increases in demand are driving the projected increase.

GasBuddy issued an alert Wednesday, Jan. 30, saying prices are expected to rise by 10 cents to 25 cents within two weeks' time.

In an email, DeHaan said there are multiple factors leading to increased prices.

Maintenance will soon begin at refineries across the nation because demand right now is low, DeHaan said.

Refiners need to time their shutdowns so they don't all do it at once, but that would be good for consumers and not their pockets!
