Regulated pricing of natural gas could end by 2017

The Columbus Dispatch -- By Dan Gearino -- Natural-gas deregulation took a leap forward yesterday, with the approval of plans that set the terms to eliminate regulated pricing.

With no dissent and no discussion, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio said that Columbia Gas of Ohio can eliminate regulated pricing for households, if certain conditions are met. The panel also approved a similar plan for Dominion East Ohio Gas.

Supporters say the actions will lead to greater competition and lower prices.

Opponents say the opposite is likely, because a few dominant suppliers no longer will have to compete with the regulated price.

This is a significant step in a process Ohio began in the 1990s when it began to allow households to buy gas from companies other than the utility.

They don't want price controls and regulation if natural gas is to rise on the global market. You can kiss cheap fuel for winter months heating goodbye. Its all about the money not for the consumer but Big Energy markets. People need to be alert and not asleep about these things. Its all about exporting our gas in the form of LNG for a market that will pay several times more than it brings here.
