Smokers light up at Texas oil storage facility, tanks explode, official say

nbcnews.com -- Two people were critically injured in an explosion and fire Tuesday morning after smoking on a catwalk over oil storage tanks, officials say.

According to Van Zandt County Fire Marshal Chuck Allen, at about 3 a.m. firefighters were called to a fire at an oil storage facility north of Van, Texas, along state Highway 110.

At the facility are at least six 400-barrel fiberglass storage tanks, three of which caught fire and exploded. Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and ultimately decided to let the fire burn itself out.

DUH! Who would have thought that could happen! Surrounded by open crude oil tanks, possible flammable liquids and gas vapors present And warning signs posted all over the place. What did those cigarettes have inside or is this the relaxing phase after doing it on the catwalk? You don't smoke at a gas station getting fuel, why would you be smoking there?
