Terminal Velocity: Ford C-Max Energi To Vie With Volt, Prius

Forbes -- One of the most interesting battles of the new car-model year will be a three-way title fight in the plug-in hybrid segment among Ford’s new C-Max Energi, the new Prius plug-in and the reigning champion (and only real contestant until now), the Chevrolet Volt.

Ford announced suggested pricing starting at $33,745 the other day and provided some glimpses into its go-to-market strategy for Energi. Ford also will be launching a conventional C-Max hybrid.

For Energi, the company is emphasizing the car’s smaller battery system than Volt. This means Energi purchasers are eligible only for half the tax credit of Volt purchasers and will be stuck with much shorter battery-only range.

With max range of electric-only for the three at less than 40 miles, they are still very much niche cars for the tree-hugging group.

Forty miles is the best you can get out of a charge and you have to spend 35k? I thought they were better than that.

Because of the 7500 credit to consumers these car companies are pricing these vehicles at least 5000 or more than what they should be

The cars will get better and less expensive. Your gasoline powered car wasn't perfect when it came out either!

Hard to believe that anyone who counting the cost or considering the usefulness would buy any one of these.

Why even buy a car when you can only get 15 miles on the battery. I would like 150-200 miles to make it worthwhile to buy one of these cars.

I would think about buying this car, if my 6 foot 3 inch frame could fit into the car and be comfortable, the Prius is not fit for my Body.

This doesn't sound positive news for Ford, on the shorter battery range. And isn't the price a bit "pricey"?
