E-85 is a scam - it not only dings the economy it dings the engine.

as others have pointed out, it is the TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP that really counts, HOWEVER, sometimes there are up front cost, and even then most people fail to take into account the cost of money and more importantly OPPORTUNITY COSTS

WOW - I can't agree enough with GasHunter0007.
This is, unfortunately, what everyone should be following . . . it's what every one of us should have learned from mom and dad years ago. They should teach stuff like this in High School. Maybe something like a personal finance class - I would bet most kids graduating from High School these days are unfamiliar with these points, or even how to balance a checkbook.

I will keep my 2001 Ford Taurus. I don't put many miles on it a year and since I have the oil changed according to the calendar instead of miles, it's not practical to spend $20k on a new car.

If you really want to save overall,
1. create a budget and stick to it 2. drive wisely by consolidating your errands or what not 3. save every pay day and stick to it 4. watch how much money you will have in 2 - 4 yrs; be patient; it will grow 5. if you use your cc make sure to pay it off within the 30-day period so you don't pay finance charges 6. don't spend what you don't have. be patient and save and eventually pay cash. this will help you keep track of your expenses 7. save your receipts so you know where your money is going every month 8. don't touch your savings unless you really have to
It's not just the price of gas; that's part of it. Look at the big picture. don't live from paycheck to paycheck. If you will it, you can do it. Start saving 'cause no one is going to do it for you.

This does not save anything by purchasing a vehicle that saves energy or fuel. The costs don't add up. That is what I'm telling you for years. There is a formula that the economist are not using to feed to the liberal government or the government is choosing not to tell the people, which I believe the latter. But paying more for a vehicle to save money takes time and in the end, you are saving money by saving on gas. And with the price steadily going up from year to year. It is impossible to save money. The time you would save on the purchase of that vehicle would be on average about 9 years, 3 months. The average life of a person with a vehicle is about 4 years, 2 months. And it use to be back in the 90's only 2 years, 9 months. So where is the savings.

Every improvement to gas mileage helps all of us in the long run. I think the more they build fuel-efficient vehicles the better chance of consumers buying them and eventually that vehicle will go on the market as a used vehicle. Which all means that more and more energy efficient vehicles will be on the road.

You're paying a pretty penny to help shave the cost of gas-consumption. I think the prices of both types of vehicles need to match in order to see what would really sell.

It is becoming too much of an ordeal studying vehicle' pros and cons as well as evaluating whether you will make out on the purchase. Might as well, keep fixing up "Old Betsey"!

Interesting, pays to do your homework on the car you are interested and check to see if there are others that may be a better deal.
