US shale oil reviving East Coast refineries

Boston Globe -- A year ago, the shutdown of several refineries serving the Northeast and the possibility they would not reopen threatened to boost New England’s already­ high gasoline prices by as much as 15 cents a gallon. But an influxof cheaper crude oil extracted from shale rock formations in the United States has helped save most of those facilities and stabilized gas ­prices.

The revival of the East Coast refineries is another example of how the controversial drilling process known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is changing the energy equation for the region, nation, and world.

Just as fracking opened vast reserves of natural gas over the past decade, it is now unlocking crude oil trapped in shale deposits. It is so dramatically increasing domestic production that the United States is pro..

US shale oil reviving East Coast refineries, the refinieries should have never been shut down in the first place. Fracking may get that extra natural gas out of the rock formations but what will happen to the above and underground water quality? Once that water is 'tainted,' there's no going back!
More oil for the refineries but Big Oil and Big Gas sells fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices.
The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! The price at the pump needs to go down to $2/gallon - *$3, *$3.50/gallon or *$4.00 is Not the new low!
More Refineries are Not the answer, Stop exporting fuel is!
Take care of the domestic fuel market first and above all else!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

we need better running refineries that don't shut down every time a roach runs into some nook or cranny.

From 2008 to 2012 I went only bicycle for daily commuting here in Maine, yet the only stock I did not sell off we my ExxonMobil stock.

I never rail against what a company charges for their product. If I do not like the price, I do not buy it.

Gas prices are soaring. More than 50 cents a gallon over the past few weeks. So what do more refineries do? Line the pockets of BIG OIL with gold.

Hopefully more refineries will lower the prices but I'm not holding my breath for that to happen very soon.

Sooner or later, the overabundance of domestic oil, will result in lower prices. It's the governments job to force the oil companies to sell their refineries to other interests, so they can't manipulate the price.

I sure hope our two countries are considering the long term consequences of hydraulic fracking... If we are not careful they may be at least as significant as what we are dealing with in atomic stuff.
