U.S. can become an energy export nation

Politico -- Imagine a future in which the United States abandons its tepid policy of inching toward energy “independence” and instead joins forces with Canada and Mexico to become the world’s largest energy exporter.

It could push the Middle East off the geopolitical center stage. Americans would profit from supplying the world energy instead of spending to defend those supplies. The North American energy industry would also bring trillions of dollars in domestic economic benefits and generate millions of jobs.

This felicitous scenario is now possible because the energy world has been turned upside-down. While policymakers globally have focused on alternatives to hydrocarbons, from solar and wind to plant matter, the game-changing technologies that have emerged are in the traditional sectors —

just love the negativity here. I can always count on a dose of politics injected into discussions, whether or not an article is mentioning either party.

Know your history. This great Republic has been exporting energy since before WW II.

Exports are good, they bring $$$$ back into this country.

We are already exporting too much, especially diesel fuel, which causes artificial 'shortages' and supports high prices.

Worthy of note at the end of the article ...

"... All this has happened in an environment either hostile to or, at best, neutral toward hydrocarbons.

In hydrocarbon-friendly states, tax coffers are bulging and job markets are booming, largely from production on private and state-controlled lands. Ohio alone stands to reap 200,000 new jobs by 2015 and $22 billion in economic growth. In the Western states, a mere few dozen proposed oil and gas projects could generate 120,000 jobs and $400 billion cumulative benefits over 15 years."

Can you imagine the progress that could have been made if Obama (the HO) were not an obstacle? Vote him out of office in November.

Do you think we could see oil prices drop to next to nothing?
Let's take care of our own people first for once, or is that to much to ask?

Let's START with KEEPING IT HERE FIRST! Once we become TOTALLY self-sufficient, THEN we can think about exporting it if we have huge surpluses and reserves. Let all of these other countries fend for themselves for a CHNAGE and see how they do. Unfortunately we still need their oil, which is why our military is there. If we can become self-sufficient and take care of our own FIRST, we don't need them! Makes sense to the average person, but unfortunately politicans aren't average!

jimmy544: " In the northleast solar power is becoming cheap enough so most people can afford it."

I wish that were true, but in RI, we are living through a depression where most people are having trouble paying for food, medical care, housing, and many now have no transportation.

US an energy export nation? - never happen! The US imports too much foreign oil and exports the fuel from that oil for sale on the world market. Just try doing this with 'coming out of the closet' Barry in the white house.
Big Oil continues to sell fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices, there will be NO price reduction for the cost of fuel or natural gas IN the US. 'Coming out of the closet' Barry will support natural gas and oil production for sale on the world market to pay for his ‘spending gone wild’ addiction and receive the huge federal tax income from oil. Barry's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continues to be down – no matter how smooth talking Barry spins those numbers and he can spin them! People will still drive and buy fuel no matter what but it sure helps to have a job too!
The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump for their personal benefit.
How much will gas prices go up and they will rise, the trend is always up with fuel prices. The price at the pump needs to go down to $2/gallon, $3 to $3.50/gallon is Not the new low!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
