U.S. says Egypt needs to move fast to fix economy

Reuters -- The United States has urged Egypt to move fast to agree a loan deal with the IMF, reform its energy sector and guarantee investors against "arbitrary acts" to avert a deeper slide in its economy.

In unusually blunt comments, U.S. Ambassador Ann Patterson said Egypt's government and opposition must stop ignoring economic problems and work together to fix them.

"The most catastrophic path is for the government and the political leadership of the country - whether in power or in opposition - to avoid decisions, to show no leadership, to ignore the economic situation of the country," she said in a speech delivered in Alexandria on Sunday, according to a text posted on the embassy's website.

Why aren't we taking care of ourselves first? We've got our own problems. Do you see anyone helping us?

The idiots running this country are the ones who can't seem to come to grips that there was an election and the guy they wanted isn't the one who was elected.

If they just stopped being so stubborn, maybe we'd be able to get out of this mess.

Idiot children are running this county, what nerve they have telling other countries about fixing their economy when our moronic politicians have no clue as to how to fix ours. One thing is for sure, our government is expert at destroying our economy.

To all those saying we should stop all foreign aid, you do realize that we don't send cash to other countries, right? We send arms like tanks and F-16 fighter jets in order to keep our defense industry fully employed.

When we don't send arms, we send food like corn and wheat in order to support agribusiness.

So, foreign aid is just another form of corporate welfare.
