Utica Shale to bring more jobs

Marion Star -- A promising oil and gas rush is responsible for the creation of 38,830 jobs in Ohio this year and will add another 100,000 jobsby 2020, according to an industry-backed study released Wednesday.

However, the report acknowledges much of the extraction work in Ohio’s Utica Shale is not being done by Ohioans.

The existing labor pool in Ohio and other states does not yet have enough people with the “skills and occupational expertise required for unconventional oil and gas development,” the report from business forecasters IHS Global states. “In fact, these emerging states have seen considerable labor migration from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and other states.”

The US has become a service based labor pool and no longer has a leading technological background.
